One of the best-known and most sought
after works by Erté is his Alphabet.
In his autobiography, My Life/My Art,
he wrote: “Drawing has been my favorite
pastime from the age of three or four,
so when I was taught to read and write,
I was absolutely fascinated by the alphabet”.
Fascinated also by the beauty and grace
of the human form, he created over many
years a series of gouache drawings combining
the alphabet and human figures.
